PRAYER OF LETTING GO
To You do I belong, O God,
into Your hands I surrender my life.
Pour out Your Spirit upon me

A very warm welcome to our prayer today as we close out Vincentian's Spirit Week. And our last Vincentian family group we're highlighting is also the largest, the Association of the Miraculous Metal. In 1830, the Blessed Mother appeared to Catherine Labaray. She was a novice with the Daughters of Charity, and the Blessed Mother instructed her to have a medal struck with the promise of great graces to those who wear it. The original name for the medal was the Medal of the Immaculate Conception. But after so many miracles that were the result of it, it became popularly known as the Miraculous Medal. And it stuck ever since in 1905 Pope Pius X established it under the direction of the Congregation of the Mission. And one member of the Association is with us today to share her experience. Welcome to prayer and thank you for joining us. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.

SPEAKER_03Just one month ago, at 39 years old, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, call it the meningioma. It had grown large enough to cause seizures in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. My husband witnessed it, and our life changed overnight. Suddenly there were MRIs, doctors' appointments, medications, and the fertility reality that I will need brain surgery. A few days before my surgery, I just I stopped by my work to say goodbye to my co-workers and be part of a healing mask. Many of them already knew about my diagnosis. Two dear coworkers, Tina and Sandy, asked me if I had one of our soft miraculous metals. The hospital safe version that contains no metal. I told them I didn't. Without hesitation, they handed me two of them, one large and one small. Then I fell asleep. I slowly realized I couldn't move my arms and legs. I was alive. Then I learned something that surprised everyone. The surgery that had been expected to last at least six hours had taken only about three to four hours. Even more astonished, my surgeon told me they had been able to remove nearly all of the tumor, despite preparing me beforehand for the possibility that some of it may have to remind. Today, I continue praying the rosary. I continue entrusting my life to Jesus through the loving intercession of his blessed mother. This experience has changed me forever. For years I have meleed miraculous metal with faith. Now I know what it feels like to receive that hope myself. The miraculous metal is not a lack of charm, it's not magic. It is a sacramental, a visible remind that invites us to place our trust completely in God. It estranges our faith and gently leads us to Jesus through the loving intercession of his mother. So may explain my surgery through medicine and the extraordinary skills of my surgeons. I thank God for those surgeons. I believe they were instruments of his healing. But in my heart, I also believe heaven was with me that day. My prayer today is the same prayer that has been inscribed on the miraculous medal. Oh Mary, can see without sin, pray for us who have researched to you. May everyone who receive a miraculous medal remember that its greatest purpose is not to point us to Mary alone, but to one to whom she has always pointed, Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_02As we pray together, Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Let us pray. Living God, as we bring this time of prayer to a close, we place ourselves beneath the loving mantle of Mary, our Lady of the Miraculous Metal. Through her intercession, fill us with trust in your grace and open our hearts to recognize your presence in the poor, the forgotten, and those most in need. Like Saint Vincent de Paul, teach us to make our faith visible, not simply in the prayers we speak, but in the love we give. Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. And together our prayer of letting go. Into your hands I surrender my life. Pour out your spirit upon me, that I may love you perfectly and serve you faithfully until my soul rests in you. Of course, she wasn't a saint at the time, she was a novice studying for the daughters. And the very chair that Mary sat in during her apparition, it's still enshrined in the sanctuary in the chapel.
